ALADDIN PANTOMIME REPORT DECEMBER 2013
We were rather late in getting going with organising an event for the children at Christmas and it was all down to Shirley Abbot who managed to find some entertainment that we finally kicked ourselves into gear! So on Saturday, 1st December, Pyramid Productions came along to Carleton Rode Jubilee Hall to perform the pantomime ‘Aladdin’.
Thank you to all the 80 children who came along accompanied by an adult or two, all of whom enjoyed themselves, particularly a younger member of the audience who delighted us all in joining in the storytelling which had the actors thinking on their feet and added to the fun.
I would like to thank all the ticket sellers, Wai, Adam, Kain and of course, Shirley who works so hard, keeps us motivated and provides the fun!

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTIES - SATURDAY 1st DECEMBER 2012
The Children's Christmas Party Group are holding two parties this year, both at Bunwell Village Hall and both on Saturday, 1st December. The first party is for age 0 to Reception Year and is from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Jo Jingles will be entertaining the children. A sit-down lunch of sandwiches, snacks and cakes will be served to the children. There will be a gift for each child from our special guest - Father Christmas.
Kate and Oliver of Knockout Entertainment are coming along to keep the children on their toes at the second party. This starts at 3pm and finishes at 5pm. This party is not recommended for children under 4 years of age as there is so much running around. Hot dogs, cakes and snacks will be available for children and Father Christmas once again is our special guest with a present for each child.
We ask please that children are accompanied by an adult at both parties.
We would be very grateful to anyone who can help us either before the parties or on the day and for any donations of little cakes for either or both of the parties.
We look forward to welcoming you and your children to our 2012 Children's Christmas Parties.

Peter Pan Pantomime 2011
Carleton Rode Village Hall set the scene for the pantomime “Peter Pan” on Saturday,
26th November. The Children’s Christmas Party Group have organised a party every year since 2005 but this year one of the group, Shirley Abbot, thought it was time for a change. Shirley had the idea of arranging for London based Pyramid Productions to entertain the children and what a good idea it turned out to be! One hundred children and eighty-five adults from Bunwell, Carleton Rode and surrounding villages filled the hall and joined in the fun. During the interval each child was given a party box full of goodies including ice-cream, whilst tea, coffee and cakes were served to adults. The actors had no trouble in encouraging their audience to enter into the spirit of panto with shouts of “He’s behind you” echoing into the streets outside. The panto ended with a rousing sing-a-long to a pirate-themed “Twinkle Twinkle Little Starrrr!” The actors then presented every child with a “treasure” of chocolate coins and a balloon model of a pirate sword made by Andy Jarvis. The Children’s Christmas Party Group would like to thank everyone who came along and all those who helped on the day, especially Andy who blew up so many balloons!

Here are just a few pictures from the 2010 Children's Christmas Parties. Kate Clover was the lucky winner of our raffle for a Christmas Hamper at the first party and is seen here with Ruth Kemp. Lisa Dew won the Christmas Hamper at the second party. The picture of the elf helpers shows them at their cheekiest, the cheekiest obviously being Shirley Abbot! The other elves with Shirley are Wai Jarvis, Adam May, Sue Jordan, Rachael Seaward, me (Carol Crouch) and Cate Harper.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTIES, 28th November 2010
Thank you to all the children and accompanying adults who joined in the fun at the two Children’s Christmas Parties held in Bunwell Village Hall on Sunday, 28th November.
We would like to thank Ruth and Ray Kemp for the funds they raised for us at their coffee evening, Su Alderson, Joy Gibson, Suzanne Cairns and everyone who made cakes and party food for us and thank you to my mum, Doris Jones, for all the sandwiches she made. We also couldn’t manage without all the help we receive on the day with setting up and especially clearing up, a big thank you to everyone.
Something a bit different is being planned for Christmas 2011 so please check this website later in the year for news of this.
THE CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY GROUP - HOW IT ALL BEGAN....
I had the idea to hold a Christmas party for children of the village whilst I was a member of the steering committee for Bunwell’s Parish Plan and also whilst helping with the formation of two Youth Plans . These Plans were compiled using responses from Questionnaires which were given to children attending both Bunwell and Carleton Rode Schools. Many children from both schools commented that they would like a place to meet with friends who didn’t necessarily go to the same school as them, out of school hours. So with this in mind, I thought maybe one way to bring them together was with a Christmas Party.
You may like to know about the parties the Children's Christmas Party Group have held to date:
Children’s Christmas Parties November 2009
Two parties were held on 28th November 2009, in Bunwell Village Hall, when 33 children came along to the little ones party and were entertained by Jo Jingles. They had a sit-down tea of sandwiches, snacks and cakes and each child had a different coloured helium balloon. Sixty-nine youngsters came to the second party and were entertained by Kate and Oliver of Knockout Entertainment. Father Christmas visited both parties and ensured every child went home with a present. We served burgers and hotdogs, together with savoury food, snacks, cakes and biscuits. Tea, coffee and biscuits was available free of charge to all adults who accompanied their children.
In 2008 and 2009 we charged £3.50 per child for a ticket but we raised this to £4 last year. This makes up for about 50% of the total cost of the party, the remainder of which we continue to fundraise during the year. In 2009 we were fortunate to have the help of Ruth & Ray Kemp who held a special Coffee Evening in July, half the proceeds of which were allocated to the parties in 2009 and half for last year’s parties. We also had an anonymous donor who paid the hall hire fee for us. Our Group held a Christmas Fayre fundraiser at the beginning of November 2009 and were thrilled that so many people came along to support us and provided funds to meet the costs of the parties.
Children’s Christmas Parties November 2008
As the parties were proving so popular, we decided to hold two parties in 2008, in Carleton Rode Village Hall but in order to hire the entertainers we wanted, we had to make the date one week earlier than usual. We were a little concerned that we would get many children to come along but we needn’t have worried as on 29th November 2008 42 children aged from 6 months to 5 years were entertained by Jo Jingles and 59 children from 5 years and up joined in the fun and games that Knockout Entertainment provided. We had fundraised during the year by holding a Father’s Day coffee morning in June, an Internet Café in November and providing refreshments at the 2008 Santa Fun Run.
Children's Christmas Party December 2007
A party was held on 8th December 2007 in Carleton Rode Village Hall when 85 children were entertained by Charlie Cheesecake. We also had some young people helping with face and nail painting as well as crafts and games available for the children in the small hall. We raised funds during the year by holding a coffee morning/cake sale in October and by providing refreshments for two “Dabble Days” .
Children’s Christmas Party December 2006
By the time of the 2006 party, held on 9th December in Bunwell Village Hall, I was very grateful to have the help of Cate, Karen and Natasha so together with Rachael and Sue from 2005, there were now six of us who formed the Children’s Christmas Party Group. We had no funds at all so organised a coffee morning/cake sale in November 2006. We were thrilled to bits at the number of people who came along and at the number of cakes, pies etc that people had made for us to sell. We were really grateful to the Strollers who held a Fancy Dress Fun Run later that November specially to raise funds for the party. So our 2006 party took place with 90 children who were entertained by Charlie Cheesecake.
Children’s Christmas Party December 2005
A party was held on Sunday, 11th December 2005 in Bunwell Village Hall. I was helped by some members of the Parish Plan steering committee, and we put together some games and with the help of my mum who made the sandwiches and Joy Gibson who made cakes for us (both of whom have very kindly continued to do so every year since!) made some party food. At the time of booking the hall we had no idea how many, if any, children would join us so imagine our surprise when we were joined by 56 youngsters!Children’s Christmas Party 2007
